My Break In

Thursday June 19th My house was broken into. I was very fortunate that the guys that did this was completely stupid, blind or both. They stole a flat screen TV 6 inches away from a computer that was recording a security camera that they had to walk within 12 inches of to steal my laptop. Along with the TV and Laptop they also got a digital camera and destroyed a crystal rose I had gotten my wife for her birthday. Well today I heard some of the video was on the local news, but I did not watch it…I don’t have a TV. I mashed all of the clips into a single video and uploaded it to a youtube type site.

here is the video

I have some snapshots from the vidoe on my Google Photo Album(see link on the right near bottom.

Update: I have been making notes on the car and the guy. a few things to look for if you see this car. If you see this car just take a photo if you can and call the police. DO NOT try to stop this car or approach them.

  1. The side rear view mirrors are chromed.
  2. There is a silver, white or chrome emblem between the front and rear door windows.
  3. The windows are blacked out.

Recruitment puzzle explanation

I have started working on this ARG called Holomove. The First Puzzle in the Game appears to be a recruitment puzzle. in my last post I introdused it and in this post I thought I would explain how I solved it. Also I will be posting information to my blog to help me keep up with everything going on, becuase over the week end I was able to get deeper into it and it is very deep. I assume this is an in depth game considering this is my first.

For me when ever I think there is a puzzle involved with a web page I always get the page source. doing this on the Puzzle page I get this. the first thing I noticed was the empty font tags with different number values. I immediately thought of a simple substitution cipher. After checking a few of the letters I realized it was not that easy. So after a few trials I printed out the source and took it to lunch with me. before I had completed lunch I had my answer. the solution is listed here on a separate page encase you want to solve it on your own.

I will post more puzzle and solutions when I complete them and when time permits.

New Game(HoloMove)

I ran across a new ARG a few days ago. HoloMove I went in and started poking around, while on the jobs section I just happened to click on a developers job and was linked, not just a job description, but a screening puzzle.(the hunt is on…) After reading the information I was about to start researching Ray Kurzweil, when I started archiving the data on my local drive I found the message. After sending an email with the answer and a description of how I found it, I filled out an employment survey. Strange thing is I got a reply almost imiediatly on the survey but not the puzzle. Realizing they probably have an automated filter for the puzzle I assumed I should only send the answer not the description of the solution. It only took about 3 minutes for a reply the second time. This time the reply appeared to be from a real person.

Hi Glen,
Thanks for your note. We’ve got several recruitment puzzles, and this
one has stumped more than 94% of our prospects, so you’ve done well.

As the next step in the process, we’d like you to fill out an
employment questionnaire.

I must admit, I’m somewhat buried in responses (so much buzz…!
Perhaps it’s the ad campaign), so I’ll try and get it to you, but it’ll also be posted on
the website in the next day or so.

It’s always a good idea to check the site, under jobs and
careers. We update that section frequently.

Again, nice work on the puzzle. You’re in good company. And thanks
again for your interest in Holomove.

Regards,
Annie Goldstein
Senior Recruiter.

Still researching looks interesting. There is some information over on UForums but I going to hold off for a while and see how much I can get on my own.

Davids Bachelor Party

Ok guys I am organizing David a party. due to the fact that he has no free evenings until the day before the wedding and because Jessica will not let him leave town the night before the wedding we will be having it Friday night June 6th in Athens. I am tentatively planning a poker tournament after the rehearsal dinner. I have not chosen a location yet but it will probably be at the East West Bistro in a private room.

If you have any suggestion, comments, RSVP, or you have not been added to the email letters, please email me .

New Puzzle (FinelCodeLetter)

Excert from new puzzle

Code crackers wanted!

May 15, 2008 | 5:12 pm

Fermilab code letterA little over a year ago, the Fermilab Office of Public Affairs received a curious letter in code (see the image to the right). It has been sitting in our files all that time and we haven’t had much of a chance to look into breaking the code, nor are we particularly expert at this!

If you have a cryptological bent, perhaps you’d take a crack at this code and email us anything you find at letters@symmetrymagazine.org.

Note that this scan is from a fax of the original. The holes punched in it were not in the original and a tiny sliver has been cut off the top of the page where the fax information was printed. I’m hoping that the precise positioning on the page isn’t relevant!

Send your name to the Moon

Here is an interesting article on two projects that can allow you to send your name and in one case a message into space. The first project named Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). If you want to add your name, go to the Johns Hopkins University Web site.

If the Moon is not good enough or you just want your name in space twice, the second project is the Kepler space telescope project. you can add your name here.
